Every trip I take teaches me something. It sounds trite but it is absolutely true. I wouldn't go if it wasn't. Late this summer, I asked my dad if I should go on another trip or just stay home. He asked me why I asked. I told him it is a pain in the ass to go on these trips. It is a tremendous pain the ass to do it when you only have two days off and you are tired and alone. It takes effort. In my case, I often have to put a 17 ft long, 70 pound piece of plastic on top of my car. Sometimes I have to stash a bike to shuttle back. I have to drive long distances. You get cold and wet. I wear myself out and at the end of it I go back to work. I told him all of this but that day he said something I think about every time I load my car and pack my bag or my boat now. He was unphased. "You should go. You always bring something back."
